French Immigration to the United States Throughout History
French RevolutionDuring the French Revolution (1789-1799), some 10,000 political refugees escaped to the United States. The French people did not feel safe in their home country and saw the U.S. as an opportunity to seek asylum. They mostly came by way of the French Colonies in the Caribbean.

California Gold RushDuring the Californian Gold Rush, 1849-1850, over thirty-thousand immigrants came to the United States from France. The French people were blinded by the prospect of Gold and flocked to California seeking wealth. When the gold rush eventually concluded, the French helped establish vineyards and farms throughout the state of California.

World War 2
Millions of people were displaced during World War II. Through the course of the war, the likes of artists, writers, actors, intellectuals, and politicians came from Europe to escape the Nazis. Brides sometimes even came from France to marry men that they had met in the War.
